    Step One: Stay Calm and Find the Tooth

    The first step is not to panic. Take a deep breath and locate the tooth. If possible, pick it up by the crown (the white part)—avoid touching the root, as this can damage delicate tissue needed for reattachment.

    Step Two: Handle the Tooth with Care

    Once you find the tooth:

    • Do not scrub or rinse it with soap.

    • If dirty, gently rinse with milk or saline solution.

    • Do not wrap it in tissue or cloth—this can dry out the root.

    Step Three: Try to Put the Tooth Back in Place

    If the tooth is still intact, gently place it back into the socket. Bite down softly on a clean cloth to keep it in place. If reinserting it isn’t possible, keep the tooth moist in one of these ways:

    • Place it in milk (best option).

    • Use a tooth preservation kit (available at drugstores).

    • Hold it between your cheek and gums—only if it’s your own tooth.

    • Keep it in saline solution or water as a last resort.

    Step Four: See a Dentist Within 30–60 Minutes

    With a knocked-out tooth, time is critical. The sooner you get to the dentist, the better the chances of saving the tooth. If reimplantation isn’t possible, your dentist can discuss replacement options like dental implants or bridges.
